Oh, well. I guess the Mets are no Connecticut Lady Huskies. They will not be going 162-0. Damn, I really thought they had a legitimate shot at it.
So, as my brother correctly pointed out to me, we can't even over react and call the Ollie signing "a bust" because this is exactly what he has always done, and probably always will do. AAARGH!!!
On the plus side the bullpen pitched well. The offense kept chipping away at the lead. And it is only game 3 of a very, very looong season. I must chill. which I will do...As long as the Mets sweep the Marlins and don't make a single mistake in the series. :)
The final Opening day at Shea Stadium, and dare I say, as much of a must win game as a team can have this early in the season.
They need to start things off at home on the right foot, AND they need to get the Phillies out of their heads. How many in a row have the Phillies beaten the Mets, 8 or 9 ? I went and checked, it's 8. I would say the Mets need to stop that skid right now.
And I think they will. Ollie is in a contract year, and I think he's gonna put it all together this year. Which could mean it's his last as a Met.
So, head on out and beat those Phucking Phillies !!!!
And, to honor America on Opening Day....A bit of a flashback...
Thanks to Zooma for reminding me this video exists, or more correctly, for alerting me that is is back up on YouTube.
April 2, 2008 N.Y. Mets 13, Florida 0 at Dolphin Stadium N.Y. Mets Record: (2-1) Florida Record: (1-2) Winning pitcher - Oliver Perez (1-0) Losing pitcher - Andrew Miller (0-1)
Okay, that's more like it. Now, I can be sure that the Mets will not lose another game. God bless, Willie and Omar, and all of the fine Mets players.
oh, and Beltran was robbed of a homer last night. How could that ball have hit anything but the metal railing ? Have you ever seen a ball bounce like that after hitting padding ? It bounced like 90 feet in the air ! That was ridiculous. But how about that bomb that Wright hit ? Jiminy Christmas...There was no calling that one back.
Ollie pitched well, good to see.
Church had a good game. I wonder if he will play exceptionally well on Sundays ? that might be something to track.
4-6 weeks for Pedro to be gone. I think they will be okay without him for awhile. I'll be curious to see if they go after someone like Claudio Vargas to fill the void. it might not be a bad idea with both Pedro and El Duque seeming fragile, and not knowing what the hell Pelfrey's gonna do.
