Waiting For a Miracle

Well, I suppose this where we find out what the Mets are made of...Though I think we have gotten a pretty good idea over the last 10 days or so. Still, it's amazing that they are even tied for first place at this point.
And you know why I can't give up ?

October 1986

What the Metropolitans did in October of 1986 against the Red Sox has made me believe that just about anything is possible. Logically, I know that this swoon will most likely continue, but I also logically "knew" that Game 6 of the 1986 World Series was over before that 10th inning.
Now, I'm not comparing this team to that team, but just the fact that the dire circumstances certainly feel the same, and the fact that those 1986 Mets made me realize that "Anything Can Happen" can actually apply sometimes.

It certainly seems much more likely that "Anything Can Happen" will be the positive footnote for the Phillies' 2007 regular season, as it will also be a bitter footnote for the Mets 2007 regular season, but the 1986 Mets won't let that little glimmer of hope be extinguished until the Phillies have taken sole posession of first place from the Mets cold, dead fingers, and the final out of the regular season ahs been recorded.

Until then, I'll just wait for Carter to start that rally.

That was great thinking... keyword was... before last night's game.

Now it's almost out of the Mets' hands.

Winning the last 2 games won't mean squat unless the Phillies lose 1 of theirs.

At this point for me it's sad Previous feelings of total despair were mostly out of frustration but still with hope. Now -- I've accepted that this has been a blown season with no playoffs. Once the best team in baseball, making the Yankees look like A-ball chumps, now the Mets are a joke. Just sad.
