Welcome

This is my New York Mets blog.

The title comes from the Simpsons episode "Much Apu About Nothing" where Apu is pretending to be an American, and he tells Homer that they should "...take a relaxed view towards work and watch the baseball match. The Nye Mets are my favorite squadron." in this awful "American" accent. I've always loved that, and often call my beloved baseball team the Nye Mets.
So there you have that.

I have been a Mets fan as long as I can remember. I had a brief affair with the (GASP!) Yankees(those pigfuckers)( I was a big fan of Munson and Reggie Jackson- The "straw that stirs the drink" is still one of my all time favorite self descriptions) when I was very young, but I have all but blocked that out of my mind. it was an error, and I am ashamed of it. Let's move forward.

I was there in '86 with the Amazin' Mets. Hernandez, Gooden, Strawberry,Carter, Dykstra, Orosco, McDowell... I remember staring at the Tee Vee in disbelief as that ball rolled through poor Bill Buckner's legs. Did I just see that ? I at times still can't believe that.

I was there in 88 when they were the best team in the NL, until the Dodgers and Orel Hersheiser decided differently.

I was there in the early '90's for those disastrous years. I watched the grass at Shea keep "Vince Coleman out of the Hall of Fame". Still one of the most unintentionally funny things ever said.

I could go on, and I'm sure I will. But for now, I'll just say "Welcome".
