I think if I was told at the beginning of the year that the Mets would be 2 up on the Braves and 4.5 on the Phillies at the All-Star break, I probably would have taken it. Sure, I would love to have a 12 game lead right now, but I am trying to be an optimist, and when you look at the injuries that the Mets have had, and their record in June and July,I am amazed that they are even 2 games up on the Braves.
There is certainly room for improvement, and I think that they will improve. Delgado showed some real signs of life in the last 7 games of the first half, so perhaps he will have a monster second half.
Plus, we get Pedro back, and I am excited about that in spite of myself. I really think he's going to come back strong. He better. If he does not, the I think we will be in a lot of trouble. I think the Mets are still good enough to win the division(if only because they are less flawed than the Braves and Phillies)but it's hard to imagine a run in the playoffs the way things are now.
Then again, who saw the Cardinals coming last year ? we just need to get hot in September. An Pedro will help us do that. Won't he ?

I wouldn't have taken it, only 2 up. We're talkin' about new freakin' york here... at least this Mets fan always wants DEATH to reign down upon every one else from 2nd place to last while NY finishes 15-20 games ahead. 1986 spoiled me.
Only 2 up with the Atlanta Bastards breathing down the neck of 1st place? That damn team hasn't broken down yet. They could lose Andruw Jones and Laaarrrrrrr-y for a month and still be contending. That's why not even an 8 game lead is safe with 6 more to play against Atlanta.
Interesting about Pedro. I've barely even thought of that guy or heard is name spoken all season so far. I'm also excited, I love him... you know, in that fan-allstar way. If I was gonna shell out a hundred plus bucks for a jersey, I've had it on my mind that I'd love a 45 Martinez. It would be great to see him have some great seasons in Queens and go to the HOF as a Met. We'll see. First things first and that's seein' him go about 8-2 heading into October.
I ain't scared... a little concerned... but no Mets fan is a real Mets fan if they give up hope before the very last pitch that would eliminate them from playoff contention. Until that dreadful moment -- Mets to win the division!!!
